All About Sassi

Short And Sweet

Susan Sassi is a singer, writer, comedian, and self-producing troublemaker. She also possesses other talents as a Cat Whisperer, Cathy impersonator, and the alter ego of Toots McApplesauce. She can often be found being very loud in public and generous with her laughter.

She is the founder of The Humanity Arts Project, where she creates interactive performances that combine music, comedy, and storytelling so audiences don’t just watch the show — they become part of it.

She lives in Los Angeles with two cats who are extremely codependent and very confident about their artistic opinions. They are very supportive of her career, as it allows her to spend more time at home feeding them.

Longer and Sweeter

Susan Sassi is a Los Angeles–based singer, comedy writer, stand-up comedian, actress, and self-producing artist whose work blends satire, musical theatre, and character-driven comedy.

Her comedy writing has received recognition from prestigious competitions including Austin Film Festival, Women In Film, Emerging Writers, CineStory, Fresh Voices, The ‘Breakk’, Stage 32, the Genre Screenwriting Contest, and ScreenCraft TV Writing Contest. Her satire has appeared in publications such as McSweeney’s, The Belladonna, Weekly Humorist, Slackjaw, Robot Butt, Jane Austen’s Wastebasket, Monocle of Higher Education, Little Old Lady Comedy, Greener Pastures, and Platypus News.

Originally trained in musical theatre, she holds a BFA from Point Park University, graduating summa cum laude, and was awarded the prestigious Dorothy Haas Acting Apprenticeship at the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia. During her apprenticeship she understudied Biddy/Mrs. Joe in Great Expectations and appeared on the mainstage in Damn Yankees, Schoolhouse Rock, and A Christmas Carol.

Her regional theatre work includes roles such as Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd, the Old Woman in Candide, Caliban in The Tempest, and Little Red Riding Hood in Into the Woods, where she developed a reputation for bold comedic and character-driven performances.

Sassi also creates and performs original work across theatre, web series, and live comedy. Her web series Cathy in Real Life, a parody of the beloved Cathy comic strip, screened at festivals including LA Comedy Fest, Etheria Film Night, CineFest, IFS, WRPN, and Dances With Films.

Her one-woman show Renaissance played to sold-out houses at the Midtown International Theatre Festival and was nominated for Best One Act. She later wrote, produced, and starred in the musical Victorian Courting & Zombies, which sold out its 2014 Hollywood Fringe Festival run and received a shout-out from NPR.

Most recently, her musical solo show Ne-Fairy-ous appeared at both the 2024 Hollywood Fringe Festival and the Philadelphia Fringe Festival. A Hollywood Fringe reviewer wrote, “Sassi takes so much sorrow, mixes it in her made-up magical pot and churns out so much love.” — Tracey Paleo, Gia On The Move.

She is also the founder of The Humanity Arts Project, which creates interactive performance experiences designed to build connection, cognitive engagement, and emotional resilience through shared participation in music, comedy, and storytelling.

Originally from New Jersey, she now lives in Los Angeles and helicopter-parents two extremely spoiled cats.
